Switzerland

Switzerland have pulled off the biggest surprise of the Euro so far, as they knocked out France, who were considered by many as the title-favourites.

The match against France was an absolute thriller. The Swiss had opportunities to lead 2-0 within minutes but instead found themselves down 1-3. Then, in the last minutes of the match, they equalised again and went into a goalless extra time. The game was decided by penalties, in which the Swiss netted all of their shots while Kylian Mbappé missed for the French.

The Swiss and the Spanish last met not too long ago, at the end of 2020. In the first leg, the Swiss lost 0-1, and in the second leg they drew 1-1.

Spain

Spain reached the quarter-finals after eliminating Croatia in a great match that ended 5-3. The Spaniards, in two minutes of extra time, scored the two goals that would take them through to the next round.

The Spaniards have scored ten goals in their last two matches and are currently the top-scoring team with 11 goals in total.

Key Stats

  • Three wins, one draw and one defeat for Switzerland in their last five games
  • Four of Switzerland’s last five games have ended with three or more total match goals
  • 12 consecutive matches without losing for Spain
  • Two consecutive matches scoring five goals for Spain

Switzerland vs Spain Predictions

The Swiss have already shown that they are capable of going toe-to-toe with their opponents. However, we think that Spain’s style of play, where they sleep on the ball and wear their opponents down physically, could hurt the Swiss, who are a counter-attacking team. Furthermore, both teams will be physically tired by this point, but we think this will be more detrimental to the Swiss.

As both teams prefer a more attacking style of play, we think there will be many goal-scoring opportunities and the match could end with more than 2.5 total goals.
