Neither of these sides have much else to play for this season with Plymouth having already secured automatic promotion whilst Crewe Alexandra have successful avoided relegation.

Although it can be said that Plymouth’s campaign is now effectively over having already guaranteed themselves League One football next year, Argyle will be keen to take advantage of Doncaster Rovers’ recent slip-up to try and claim the League Two title in order to cap off an excellent season.

Unsurprisingly for a team near the top of the table, the Pilgrims have been effective in both boxes with 68 goals scored and just 44 conceded in 44 league games. Having said that, goals have been the main focus recently with Plymouth having found the back of the net nine times in their last four matches. Argyle’s defence has been a bit lacklustre recently and their recent clean sheet at home to Colchester United was their first in four games.

Interestingly, Derek Adams’ side have not been very good at home this season and in fact have taken more points on their travels than they have at Home Park – 44 points as opposed to 39. Plymouth’s inconsistency at home shows no sign of letting up with no back-to-back wins in their last nine in all competitions, in a run including five losses. Additionally, 64% of Argyle’s total goals conceded were let in at home.

Crewe managed to record their first victory in four matches last time out with a 3-0 win over already-relegated Leyton Orient. Having said that, this hardly shows a great turnaround in form as everybody is beating the O’s at the moment so going up against a more capable opponent may see them come crashing back down to earth.

After conceding an alarming ten in their previous four matches and failing to keep a clean sheet, David Artell’s men managed to return to their previous good habit of keeping clean sheets with their shutout against Orient. Prior to that dismal run, Crewe had kept three consecutive clean sheets. Offensively, Crewe put Orient to the sword last time out with three goals, however, despite a poor run, this has not actually been too rare in recent times. Artell’s side have managed to score in all but one of their last ten matches whilst they even managed to find the back of the net five times in that miserable recent run.

Following a run of three away wins on the bounce, including against now-promoted Portsmouth, Crewe have now lost back-to-back away matches, conceding an alarming six goals in the process. The Railwaymen have conceded a hefty 39 goals in 22 matches on the road this campaign – even Newport County down in 22nd have conceded fewer on their travels.

Although Plymouth’s home form has been really inconsistent of late, I expect them to do a job on Crewe here. Additionally, they have been on fire in front of goal recently and so expect them to score at least a couple against a visiting team who’ve been struggling at the back. ‘Plymouth Argyle to Win &Over 1.5 Goals’ is worth going for at 23/20.
