16:05 Lingfield – Major Muscari @ 6/1

The finale at Lingfield on Wednesday afternoon looks like the ideal race for Shaun Harris’ Major Muscari to continue his good form.

The nine-year-old comes into this contest as a highly exposed type with a record that is patchy at best; however, his record in contests such as this is encouraging to say the least. Having run in Class 6 events over this trip three times at Lingfield, this C&D winner is yet to finish outside of the places, while his overall record at this level isn’t too bad either.

He may have won just three times in Class 6 races (all of which came on the all-weather), but that’s more than almost all other runners in this field, while he’s filled the places on no less than 23 occasions.

As a seasoned campaigner who’s more than familiar with getting competitive in these races, Major Muscari has returned to action in good-form this season. After a 107 day break, the gelding has twice hit the place money over 6f, shaping as if the step-up to 7f is just what’s needed on both outings.

With a record of 42413237, Lingfield is certainly a favoured venue of this runner, particularly over this distance. Jockey Kevin Lundie was on board for his last success (C&D) which came around this sort of time last year and it would appear as though he’s booked at the right time again.

The race in which he won over C&D (2lb lower than that winning mark) last January has plenty in common with this contest and, if capable of repeating that level of form, it’s hard to see how he’d fail to go very close indeed.

There’s plenty to suggest that this is sort of race where Major Muscari will lay down a decent challenge and, at odds of 6/1, he’s certainly worth backing to return to the Lingfield winners enclosure.
