Real Madrid dealt devastating injury blow as Winger set to miss clash against Athletic club
Real Madrid’s injury crisis continues to worsen as Belgian winger Eden Hazard has become the latest player to be ruled out of action.
According to Guillermo Rai of the Athletic, Hazard missed today’s training session after twisting his ankle in a previous session and will miss Sunday’s game against Athletic Club.
This latest setback adds to an already extensive injury list at Santiago Bernabeu, which includes David Alaba, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Carvajal, and Lucas Vazquez.
Hazard, who joined Madrid in 2019 from Chelsea, has struggled to establish himself as a key player under coach Carlo Ancelotti and has only featured in seven games across all competitions this season, registering one goal and one assist.
The 31-year-old has not played in a La Liga game since September 2020 and was also not used in the two Spanish Super Cup matches and the Copa del Rey encounter against Villarreal earlier this week.
While Hazard’s absence may not be a significant loss for Madrid, the absence of Carvajal and Vazquez means that the team will be without a natural right-back.
This could mean that Ancelotti will have to turn to Nacho or Eder Militao to fill that position against Athletic Club.
It remains to be seen how Madrid will cope with the mounting injury crisis, but one thing is certain, the defending champions of Spain and Europe will have to find a way to overcome this adversity if they are to maintain their position at the top of the table.
