In the summer transfer window, Chelsea will face stiff competition from Liverpool and Manchester City in their pursuit to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.

Chelsea will have to fight off strong competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to secure the signing of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Having already made notable defensive signings in the past two transfer windows, including the likes of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, the Blues are determined to add further strength to their backline with the acquisition of the Croatian international.

Chelsea had made an attempt to sign Gvardiol last summer, but were unsuccessful in their bid as Leipzig rebuffed their offers and subsequently agreed on a contract extension with the player, keeping him at the club until 2027.

The 21-year-old defender, who shone at the recent World Cup in Qatar, has been earmarked as a top target by Liverpool and Manchester City, who are both reportedly looking to secure his services ahead of the new season.

Real Madrid have also been linked with the player, with Gvardiol himself indicating in a recent interview that he would like to play for the Spanish giants at some point in his career.

Despite admitting his childhood support for Liverpool and the club’s place in his heart, Gvardiol may yet be persuaded to choose Stamford Bridge over Anfield, with Chelsea eager to convince him of the benefits of joining their ranks.

Liverpool have reportedly held talks with Leipzig over a possible move for Gvardiol during the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Reds are thought to be in the market for a long-term replacement for the injured Virgil van Dijk, and Gvardiol’s impressive performances have caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp.

With Joe Gomez and Joel Matip failing to hit their best form this season, Gvardiol could be the ideal young defender to step up and fill the void left by the Dutchman, making him a highly sought-after commodity among the Premier League’s elite clubs.
