Lisandro Martinez set to be DROPPED to the bench for Argentina vs Poland clash
Lisandro Martinez is reportedly not going to start at the back when Argentina play a crucial game against Poland in the Qatar World Cup.
Martinez came on as a second half substitute after Argentina had conceded two goals already against Saudi Arabia but his cameo obviously improved Argentina’s backline.
As a result, he started alongside Nicolas Otamendi at the back and helped Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 with a clean sheet with a top performance.
There are reports claiming that the Argentina head coach Scalani is planning on dropping the Manchester United defender against Poland and as expected, many eyebrows were raised, given the 24-year-old’s top display against Mexico.
According to Gaston Edul, Scalani is contemplating on starting either Cuti Romero, who was dreadful against Saudi Arabia, or German Pezzela alongside Otamendi.
And it’s claimed that Scalani has made this decision due to the number of tall players in the Poland team. However, the last time Martinez didn’t start for Argentina, they ended up losing the game 2-1 to Saudi Arabia and this is a MUST WIN game against Poland if they fancy going through to the knockout stage.
Martinez’s height has been criticised on several occasions by British media but he’s so far silenced his critics with top performances.
And there are legit stats that can show the Argentine has gone against all odds to become one of the best defenders at aerial duels both at Ajax and at Old Trafford currently.
