Jurgen Klopp reacts to Liverpool’s performance and defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claims that his side’s performance was good against Brighton & Hove Albion, although he admitted it wasn’t good enough to send them to the next round of the FA Cup.
The Reds fell short again against Brighton after they surrendered their lead to the Seagulls in the dying minutes of the game at the Amex Stadium.
Elliot opened the scoring halfway through the first half with a fine finish but the hosts pulled level nine minutes later after an effort from Lewis Dunk.
Mitoma completed Brighton’s comeback in additional minutes with a brilliant effort and Liverpool’s FA Cup charge came to an end after they failed to stage a dramatic equaliser at least.
That was Brighton’s second win over Liverpool this month already but Klopp was impressed by his side’s display, unlike the performance they showed when they lost 3-0 to Brighton in the Premier League.
“We came here to go through to the next round, with the game a couple of weeks ago in mind, which was pretty much rock-bottom of the performances we had in my time [here],” said Klopp.
“So that was better today, much better. But still, in the end, we concede two goals from set-pieces. We pretty much closed the gaps where they passed through last time, but around set-pieces that doesn’t help, so you have to do different stuff, so twice we were not close enough to avoid the goal.
“That doesn’t feel great, obviously. That’s not cool, but we have to take it.”
