John Stones Issues Haaland Warning To Teammates Following Wolves Riot
After Manchester City’s win on Sunday, defender John Stones warned his teammates not to rely solely on Erling Haaland, who scored a hat-trick. To relieve some of the pressure on the striker, he ask his teammates to rally and assist in scoring goals.
Haaland’s treble on Sunday was his fourth of the season, and it was enough to condemn Wolves to defeat. The 22-year-old got the ball rolling with a header in the 40th minute. In the second period, he doubled his team’s lead from the penalty spot. Following a Jose Sa error, the City talisman scored his third goal to seal the three points.
Stones did not hesitate to tell his teammates after the game that they all needed to chip in with goals and not leave the task to only Haaland. He said:
“That’s his quality. I’m so pleased for him again. He just keeps coming up with the goals. We also have had a lot of good goals from different players coming off the bench, starting the games. Riyad the other night.I don’t want to just put it all on him. We all need to chip in as well.”
He went on to say that Haaland is always happy to share his position because that is how he is at the training ground, and that he believes this is why he has been so successful over the years.
City only had to maintain their winning streak in the Sunday match. That was something the players were already aware of and took action on. As they created opportunities, scored goals, and preserved a clean sheet, they did so with patience and rhythm to their play style.
